Introduction
- In their continuing efforts against the Church of Scientology, Anonymous is launching Operation Reconnect. Projected to take place in the month of April, this operation will shine a spotlight on families torn apart by the Church of Scientology. "The aim is to bring these families together," commented an organizer who identified himself as David Monde.
The name of this operation stems from the Church of Scientology's notorious 'disconnection policy', under which individuals within the Church are forbidden contact with those whom the Church deems to be a threat to its security. This policy is used frequently by the Church of Scientology to separate families, creating a rift between those outside the Church and those trapped within it. This also serves the purpose of removing any social supports an individual has outside the Church, making it more difficult for them to end their affiliation with this organization.
Since Anonymous set out on a campaign against the Church of Scientology, a number of individuals have stepped forth with accounts of their personal experiences within the Church. Many of these people described the negative influence exerted by the Church of Scientology on their families. On a date which remains to be announced, some of these individuals will be relating their experiences to the public as speakers at peaceful demonstrations.

What Anonymous is Attempting to Achieve
Anonymous is attempting to ask Scientology members to reconnect with their families, friends and loved ones again. We wish to tell those who have disconnected that their family is far more valuable then trying to achieve obtaining non-existent super powers.
Further more we want friends and family to come together and record video clips on YouTube expressing their love and hope towards friends or family who have disconnected from them. Like a seed, the effect of such an act will not be seen fairly quickly, but over time it is hoped that Scientology members who have disconnected become curious enough to google a name of a disconnected loved one in hope that they see the video. In turn it is hoped that the Scientologist will see what they have truly lost in pursuit of what the Church of Scientology offers.
Anonymous’ power is that of the individual. As such the power to reconnect is held with Scientology members and those who have been disconnected. It is the job of Anonymous to encourage both members and disconnected persons to either make contact or post a video on youtube, etc. in hope of reconnection.
- Anonymous can aid by setting up a tent or within moderately secluded area for family members & friends who have been disconnected and have a video shot by us and posted on YouTube or other such sites. Because Anonymous will be posting the video on behalf of the disconnected persons, we will issue a card with a random number on it (ie. "5C1F4G") that way if the persons who were recorded wish to have their video removed by us or update details, they can do so by sending us a message along with that number.
Understanding Disconnection
Disconnection is a practice in Scientology, in which a Scientologist severs all ties between themselves and friends, colleagues, or family members that are deemed to be antagonistic towards Scientology. The practice of disconnection is a form of religious shunning.
Disconnection has sometimes ended marriages and separated children from their parents.
Policy basis
Antagonists to the Church of Scientology are declared by the Church to be antisocial personalities, Potential Trouble Sources (PTS), or Suppressive Persons (SPs). The Church teaches that association with these people impedes a member's progress along the Bridge to Total Freedom.
In a Hubbard Communication Office Bulletin (the official policy of the Church of Scientology), L. Ron Hubbard sets out the doctrine that by being connected to Suppressive Persons, a Scientologist could become a Potential Trouble Source (PTS):
A Scientologist can become PTS by reason of being connected to someone that is antagonistic to Scientology or its tenets. In order to resolve the PTS condition, he either HANDLES the other person's antagonism (as covered in the materials on PTS handling) or, as a last resort when all attempts to handle have failed, he disconnects from the person. He is simply exercising his right to communicate or not to communicate with a particular person.
The bulletin states that failure to disconnect from a Suppressive must itself be labelled a Suppressive Act.
The policy was introduced in 1965 and revoked in 1968 before this 1983 re-introduction.
According to Church statements, disconnection is used as a "last resort", only to be employed if the persons antagonistic to Scientology do not cease their antagonism -- even after being provided with "true data" about Scientology, since it is taught that usually only people with false data are antagonistic to the Church.
