Discussion
Due to a Right to Life Australia event being held on May 10th in Forrest Place and Murray Street Mall, our route options have been quite restricted.
The application for protest permit was submitted to the Police less than a week from April 12th, and this week we have discovered that we require a City of Perth (CoP) permit. This permit will be applied for on Monday, with the expectation being a fast approval for our event.
Due to the neccessity of the CoP permit for this protest, we are asked not to stop marching at any time. What this means for us is that we will not be able to stop for a speech whilst the permit is in effect, it also means we can not stop opposite CoS.
Some things to note;
- If people wish to, small delegations can remain outside the CoS
- Because we do not have the option of stopping as a group, it is important that we walk slowly to have maximum effect in the dense areas
- If you want to stop to speak to a member of the public or simply have a rest, you absolutely can, however the group as a whole can not
Although some of the new rules seem rather restrictive, we have not previously had city approval for our demonstrations and showing that we can follow their rules may result in finding it easier to acquire these permits in the future and to get our requested route.
